TEAK

This type of wood comes from an arboreal tree, called "Tectona grandis"; it belongs to the Verbanacea family which comes from the tropical part of Asia where it is also called “the oak of the tropics”. It has its origins from Birmania and you find it also in India and in the whole Indochina and it is cultivated in many other parts of the world. It is a tree which can reach different sizes and it can also reach the height of 40 meters having a trunk which can reach 2 meters and half in diameter.
It dries slowly and it is a wood very much appreciated for its stability in the time.
It is considered one of the most extra-ordinary wood of the world, since it is very much resistant to the persistent atmospheric events. It has the typical smell of hide, it is slightly oily to the touch, it has a browny colour overall, which goes from gold to a mild dark with almost black streaks.
Thanks to furniture designed by some architects from Scandinavia in the sixties, this wood has become popular worldwide from that time.
