SUGAR CANE

It is a tropical plant that requires a hot and wet climate; it can reach a height of 7 meters. It is cultivated by placing pieces of cane in the ground, which are then covered with soil. It was already well-know back in ancient times, and it is known that Alexander the Great found sugar cane along the Indo river during an expedition in the East around 335 b.C. Around 900 A.D. the Arabs brought sugar cane extract to Europe, which was considered a precious and rare medicinal substance. Sugar cane was then brought to America by Europeans, where it became the main cultivation of the Antilles and sugar, which was produced at a good price, was available to sweeten drinks and foods.
